Aquavit holds high status among the deep-rooted culinary customs of Scandinavia and has remained throughout history one of few spirits in the world traditionally served DURING meals. It’s equally enjoyable as an aperitif, palate cleanser between courses, or digestif, as the refreshing spice notes and botanicals make a fantastic accompaniment to a myriad of cuisines.

With glasses routinely raised during times of celebration, a drink of ICE COLD Aquavit in ONE GO is a long-standing tradition we hold dear and continue to honor.

However, when first enjoying our modern flavors and aromas we suggest you take time to taste at room temperature, as we do before we bottle it. It’s then you’ll discover the signature subtleties and rich character that set us apart as a smooth sipping spirit and exceptional foundation for the simplest of mixed drinks to the most elaborate of cocktails.

TASTING NOTES

ORIGINAL TAFFEL STYLE

Pronounced caraway spice says classic all the way through. After that a break from tradition begins with loads of bright citrus notes and “amped up” botanical elements to create an enticing blend of fresh fruit aromas, herbal undertones, and sweet floral subtleties. The flavor is balanced and complex. The finish is long and refreshing.

  • CARAWAY – Cooling spice, Spearmint
  • CLEMENTINE AND CORIANDER – Bright and fresh citrus
  • ANGELICA, ORRIS, JUNIPER – Floral top-notes and earthy undertones

SUGGESTED SERVES

NORDEN AQUAVIT is best in the company of friends. Try it neat, chilled, as a simple mixer or in the cocktail or your choice. It’s a welcomed substitute for gin or vodka in most recipes and the perfect base for entirely new concoctions.

  • 2 oz NORDEN AQUAVIT®
  • .75 oz Simple Syrup
  • .75 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 Mint Leaf

Method:Combine all ingredients into shaker with plenty of ice. Shake hard 10-15 seconds. Strain into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with fresh mint.

NORDEN® GIMLET

NORDIC MULE

  • 2 oz NORDEN AQUAVIT®
  • .75 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • .5 oz Elderflower Cordial
  • 3-4 oz Ginger Beer

Method:Combine all ingredients in a copper mug filled with plenty of crushed ice. Stir lightly and garnish with 2 slices of cucumber and a sprig if fresh dill.

NORDEN® COCKTAIL

  • 1.5 oz NORDEN AQUAVIT®
  • .75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • .5 oz Orgeat
  • .25 oz Luxardo Maraschino
  • 2 dashes (20-30 drops) Peychaud’s Bitters
  • Garnish: Expressed Lemon Peel and Sage

Method:Combine all ingredients into shaker (saving lemon peel and sage) with plenty of ice. Shake hard for 10-15 seconds and strain into chilled cocktail glass.
Express oil from lemon peel over drink and discard. Float sage leaf on top.

Method:Straight from the freezer, lightly chilled, or room temperature, choose your favorite glass and pour, sip, repeat.

Sometimes a little ice is nice! As it melts the dilution will open up an entirely new experience. Garnish with citrus peels or fresh herbs for even more dimension.

Method:Pour one measure of NORDEN AQUAVIT® over ice and garnish appropriately. Fresh and clean ice is best.

  • 1.5 oz NORDEN®
  • Squeeze of Lime
  • Cucumber and Dill (Optional)
  • Premium Tonic Water (We prefer Fever Tree Light Mediterranean)

Method:Build all liquid ingredients into Collins or wine glass, stir and garnish with sliced cucumber and dill frond.

  • 1 oz NORDEN AQUAVIT®
  • 1 oz Aperol Aperitivo
  • 1 oz Cocchi Dopo Teatro (Vermouth)
  • 1 Dash Scrappy’s Lavender Bitters

Method:Stir all ingredients into rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with lemon peel and/or lavender sprig.

NORDEN® MARTINI

  • 2 oz Original Taffel Style NORDEN AQUAVIT®
  • 1 oz Blanc/Bianca Vermouth
  • 1 Dash Orange Bitters
  • 2-3 Dash Saline Solution or Tiny Pinch of Salt

Method:Stir with plenty of ice for 30-40 seconds. Strain into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with pressed lemon peel and dill sprig.

NORDEN® MARTINI

NIGORI SPRITZ

  • 1 oz NORDEN AQUAVIT®
  • 2 oz Nigori Sake (unfiltered)
  • 1 oz Sudachi Cordial*
  • Soda Water
  • 2 Dash Grapefruit Bitters
  • 2 Dash Peychaud’s Bitters

Method:Combine all except soda and Peychaud’s into a wine glass filled with ice. Stir & top with a little more ice, soda water & finish with Peychaud’s float. Garnish with grapefruit peel.

*Cordial: dissolve 1 cup sugar into 1.25 cup water on low heat. Allow to cool and add 3.5 oz Sudachi citrus juice. Bottle & store in fridge.

NIGORI SPRITZ

  • .5 oz Creme de Cacao
  • .5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice

Method:Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with plenty of ice. Shake HARD for 10-15 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glasses & garnish with rose buds.

  • 2.25 oz Roasted Rye Bread Infused NORDEN AQUAVIT® American Oak Reserve*
  • .75 oz Drambuie
  • .5 oz Good Quality Coffee Liqueur
  • Barspoon of Simple Syrup
  • Dash of Angostura Bitters

Method:Stir in a mixing glass & serve over ice (single large cube preferred). Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

*To create infusion: roast danish/German style (100%) rye bread in oven until slightly burnt, let sit in Aquavit for 2 days, then thoroughly strain.

Adapted “walnut brown” cocktail, Gensyn Bar, Copenhagen.

  • 3 Parts Fruitbelt Tart Apple Tonic

Method:Pour ingredients into a tall glass filled with lots of ice. Stir lightly & garnish with fresh apple slices. “A match made in Michigan”.
